Support the Shanty Festival Rotterdam

At Akomar, we have been proud sponsors of the Shanty Festival for many years, which takes place annually during the Rotterdam Harbour Days. At this event, a collection of shanty choirs from home and abroad come together to sing the nostalgic sea songs that were once sung aboard ships during long journeys to all corners of the world.

The atmosphere of the Shanty Festival is unique. Every year, we are impressed by the passion and talent of the participating choirs. Our director Arjan has also been showcasing his vocal skills in the Shanty Choir Rotterdam for years. The performances create unforgettable moments, not only for the spectators but also for the city of Rotterdam. After all, there is no better place to sing these songs than in 'our' harbour city.

Preserving the Tradition

However, grant applications are being critically evaluated, and prices are rising. As a result, the continuation of the festival is under pressure. The Shanty Festival Rotterdam Foundation has launched a crowdfunding campaign to secure the festival. Like last year, you can contribute to the preservation of this beautiful tradition.
